Precious Jones (Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe) is a high-school girl with nothing working in her favor. She is pregnant with her father's child - for the second time. She can't read or write, and her schoolmates tease her for being fat. Her home life is a horror, ruled by a mother (Mo'Nique) who keeps her imprisoned both emotionally and physically. Precious's instincts tell her one thing: if she's ever going to break from the chains of ignorance, she will have to dig deeply into her own resources. source
(n): Wow. This movie screams "modern day Color Purple"...It's an ugly movie, about an ugly truth that hopefully isn't a prevalent normality in Black America today. I'm sure, however situations like this are playing out still, yet still, today. I read that this movie received top awards at both the Sundance and Toronto film festivals, but it wasn't even nominated for a Gotham Award...sadly I don't even know what a Gotham Award is...but a lot of people were pretty upset about it. It looks like it's Academy Award worthy for several categories...but I also read that the Color Purple, in all it's glory, never won any Academy Awards. So even though this movie might be worthy...we're all aware of the trends of Hollywood, so I'll make sure it gets my $9.75 at the box office.......oh, and I wonder if anyone's talkn to homechick about her diet...I'm just sayin...
(L) Omgsh, this seems sooo sad, im not much of a cry'er but i might shed a tear watching this!
